Sustainable Morehead Inc. is a 501c (not-for-profit), spiritually-based organization that meets regularly at the Morehead United Methodist Church. The goal of SMI is to further sustainable living in Morehead and the surrounding Appalachian region through education, demonstration projects and activities that are based upon the interrelationship of personal, social and environmental health. November Report. More than 3000 trees were planted this spring, with assistance through Habitat for Humanity and the church youth groups" Amazing Race. Most were planted in the Slab Creek area of Rowan County, but some are in Beaver Meadows of Menifee County. The community garden program boasts 28 plots at the Perkins site, 33 at the Shely Site, and raised bed gardens at Heritage Place, Triplett View Apartments and at private homes around town.
Meetings of SMI are held the first and third Sundays of each month, 4:30 p.m. , in Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church. All interested persons are welcome.

Square dancing one Friday evening a month starting in January 2012.
